JosephThomas
I'm not sure if I can. Just curious, are you going to the classes, or just walking the floor? Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Jfitz
Sadly, as predicted I'll be travelling with the family that week. Sorry I'll be missing it, it's not quite in my back yard but it's close enough I wouldn't have needed a hotel.

CandorLush
I would like to go but can't swing it this year, class budget is still limited so I would rather spend the money on one large one than a bunch of few hour long ones. I was able to see Steve Latta do a demo locally on inlay/banding/sandshading/bell flowers for about 3 hours and I agree with you Shane, he is awesome (and super mellow)
Popular Post shaneymack
So last weekend I was at Fine Woodworking live ! This was pretty much one of the best weekends of my life! Ive never attended any kind of woodworking convention before so this was all new to me. It was so weird. I was able to talk to other guys about woodworking, while going through photos on my phone and I didn't a blank stare back like I do with most people. It was so amazing. I was sitting next a a guy I met there at the Saturday night banquet and he was showing me all sorts of photos of his shop and he said something along the lines of, " hey, hope you don't mind me showing you all these pics". I was like, "dude are you serious right now. I think I've died and gone to heaven". Ok I didn't go that far, that would have been over the top for a first date but i said of course not this is awesome. Anyways, I thought I'd share some pics of my experience there. When we got there we were herded into a room where we were welcomed and then Mikey P did a class on photographing your work which was awesome. If any of you have seen my journals you know my photography skills are far from my woodworking skills so this class was a must They did a pinewood derby on the first night which was alot of fun. Here are a few cars that were made I hung out with Mattk from the forum when I was there. He is a great guy !! Here is his car, it was so cool They recorded the podcast live ! Vic Tesolin spoke on "The minimalist woodworker". This topic is completely opposite of what i am so I didn't get a lot out of it but he was the funniest guy there. Laughed our asses off ! Got a pic with Mr. P and his famous toolbox! Took a class with Matt Kenney. He does really clean work. His boxes are gorgeous. Here is a pic of a few of them Here is Bob Van Dyke with the cutting guage from the cover of this months fine woodworking mag. He is a great guy and a wealth of knowledge The best class I took while there was with Michael Fortune. Oh. My. Goodness. This guys knowledge of chair design and construction will make your head spin. He was an amazing teacher and a real sweetheart. Here is a picture of my favourite living woodworker, Garrett Hack. LOVE his furniture. What an awesome guy as well. He was kind enough to sign my copy his book for me Here is a little clip of Ron Swanson that pretty much sums up the way I felt.... Eric.
That's awesome Shane. I'm with you on Garrett Hack, he's the man. His presence alone would have been worth the trip. Cool stuff.
wnaziri
Thanks for posting all those pics Shane. I wish I could have gone. Our family Easter vacation and the timing of this event did not work out too well for me. Maybe next year.
Popular Post RichardA
Shane, early on you mentioned it might be the first time we might meet a Canadian...........I meet one in 1955, I was 13, she was 17 and the beaches in Florida were dark then, almost every night for a month, I slinked home smiling....... RichardA
No doubt you are, and I'd like to check out your sleeve, I like good color work..... Why don't you bring it to Amana, Iowa to the "Handworks" show May 19th and 20th. I promise you that as good and fine a Canadian you are, a 13 year old boy learned more in that one month than I've learned since. That 17 year old, turned me every way but loose. Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk Yeah, I guess I'd better back off that line of thinking. But damn it was the greatest time of my young life. Seriously though, there are three of us going to the Handworks show in Iowa in a few weeks, any chance you could join us? It's all about hand tools and St. Roy will be there Saturday morning giving a lecture. It'll be me, Ken Cooper and Dave Aka: treeslayer, Interestingly, the three of us have never met either. shaneymack
Oh man! You got to meet Matt Kenney. I follow him on instagram and really dig everything he does. Ya he is a nice guy. The class I took with him was a design class which was pretty good. I found myself fighting to stay awake but i think it was more the fault of the 5 lbs of food I ate right before I went to his class. Food coma will getchya everytime ! Popular Post -MattK-
Ahem. Shane, I believe you missed the best photo of the weekend.... Is it just because you're jealous of my hair? (are there forum rules against photos with this much handsomeness?) I echo most of what Shane wrote above... and my big achievement of the weekend was convincing Shane to start an Instagram account.
