automated blast gates

Recommended Posts

Im looking at setting up dust collection with automated blast gates.  (Ivac or grngate). they only have 4inch but I was planning on running 6inch piping.  my question is I know I can reduce and put blast gates close to each tools where it will reduce down to 4 inch but I was thinking I needed to have blast gates closest to the trunk line for better efficiency. hopefully I'm explaining this right. any help is greatly appreciated

Looks like Ivac sells a 6" metal blast gate, but at $250 a pop, I'd reach my butt down to slide them open and shut.

Where the blast gates are has no impact on efficiency. Your blower can't tell where the gate is, just the size of duct & number & radius of the elbows.

I would think mounting a contact switch on every blast gate would be cheaper than buying one of those automated ones.  Just wire the contact switch to a relay that starts/stops the DC.    Pull a gate open, DC starts up, use the tool, close the gate, DC stops.
