Popular Post RichardA
One of our moderators, a young fellow named "wtnhighlander", has a client that want's a slab oak table. he was searching locally, and I was searching locally to see if I could help. He however found a guy near Murfreesboro in Tennessee that has slabs dried in a solar kiln, I also found him, but Ross gets the credit. At my age, I take meeting our fellow woodworkers as a bucket list, and went to meet Ross at the slab dealer's place Saturday. Well worth the trip, Ross is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. He was protected by his 18 year old son, who is one really cool guy.He has a thing about trains, like we have about wood. And the guy Ross bought the slabs from is one damn nice guy as well. After the dealer and Ross's son Cody finished loading Ross's truck we loaded up and went to lunch at a nice country place in a tiny town. Well worth the extra 5 or 6 miles out of our way. And to top it off Cody got to grab a shot or two of a train passing by while we were just finishing up our lunch. We then said our "nice to meet ya salutations" and went in different directions. The pic's are of Ross, Me, and number 1 Son, the Slabs, and Ross and our new found source of slabs. Enjoy, we did.
Tom King
Thanks for posting this. One of the best ever. I wish that guy with the slabs was closer to me. Was this one of the ones on CL? I only caught a glimpse of the solar kiln, in the background of one picture, but it looks pretty interesting.

Yeah, this guy was on CL, sorry about not getting better shots of the kiln. It was interesting, and the guy is cutting a tree that's close to 150 years old and gettin 65" wide slabs out of it, but I think he told us it was Ash. And since I smoke cigars, I didn't need any more ashes.
Popular Post wtnhighlander
The guy's name is Darryl Emily. A programmer by day, slabber-hero by night. I believe he has a web site at urbantimbersupply.com. Not a high-volume business, for sure, but he has a nice stock of very Cremona-esque slabs at the moment. He was a pleasure to deal with, and fairly priced for the current slab market. Which is to say, I am NOT telling@Eric. what I paid for red oak! Anyway, it was a blast to meet Rick, and the lovely Ms. Linda. I must apologize for Cody talking her ear off .... If anyone makes the trip, be sure to find Miller's Grocery for lunch. It is what Cracker Barrel pretends to be, an old-time country store turned resturant. The food is delicious. Look for the sign at the corner!

I tried on this last one, I even told him I'd come pick him up. But there wasn't room enough for his son to bring all he would need to take good care of his dad.

Trust me, Dave, if the situation had permitted, I would have been there!
