Jigsaw question...

Recommended Posts

Just got my new B&D BDEJS600C this evening. I've been watching a few videos on YouTube about it and I have a question.

What does the orbital feature do for a jigsaw and will I need it? I plan on cutting some thin beech ply this weekend and making some Christmas ornaments as a starter project to get my feet wet.

The orbital makes roughing a ton easier. It backs the blade during the down stroke, meaning less saw lift during heavy cutting. It cuts with the blade less square, focusing on cutting the edges at the beginning and end of stroke, and leaving an undercut that reduces drag some. This is likely overstated and sounding like and advert. Just know I love it for rough work. Having said that, most of my rough work is in OSB.
