legenddc
You didn't need all these trick tailgates when the trucks were the right height. My old pickup I can reach over the sides and get anything out with ease. My neighbors '08(?) Silverado the bed comes up to my armpits. I imagine the newer trucks are even higher. Yeah, driving around the local 'city' of 68k people is more than I care for. Driving through places like Memphis or Nashville gives me white knuckles and puckered cheeks. I don't even like to think about driving around in really large city.
Tom King
Back when GPS's were just getting popular, I was headed to a job in Maryland, driving a dually, pulling a gooseneck trailer, on a Friday night. I decided to just follow the GPS directions, since I didn't know exactly where the place was in Maryland. It was right on the other side of D.C. It sent me straight through D.C., on a busy Friday night. That was the worst driving experience ever, and I thought I did really good not to touch anything, including several buses that were pushing the limits, and streets full of people walking. I still use GPS, but maps as well, and only work close to home these days.
Coop
Come on down to Houston and I’ll give You a ride on either of our three loops. Intermost, depending on the time of day is 30 min. The newest/greatest is close to 4 hours.

The loop around Atlanta was called the watermelon 500, and was dangerous. But for a truck driver, Los Angeles was the worst. The city of angels is filled with uncaring devils. 75% of the people driving cars should be "forced" to take a bus.
wtnhighlander
Atlanta is pretty good driving at 1:30 am. 8 lanes, all to yourself. Otherwise, its a nightmare.

Chip Sawdust
Dang, I was wondering what I should spend that extra $12k I have laying around and now I know! I’ll take two! That guy is nuts. I think we could be friends lol
Popular Post Chip Sawdust
Yesterday I was working on my current project and a friend stopped by to give me a couple Buck knives. I was chatting away, making a drawer, looked at the plan, marked a piece at 8 1/4", and after he left I cut it to length. Cut the tails, fitted it to the blind sockets and realized at some point in there the plan calls for those drawer sides to be 8 13/16" long. "I cut it twice and it's still too short!" It's easy to get mad and throw things, but I learned long ago that no matter how mad you get at the project (or yourself), it's still sitting there waiting for you to do something to it. I don't throw things, but I did close the shop for the day and went back into isolation in my house with my lovely wife. Best move of the day.

Chestnut
I tried to make some drawers today for a vanity I'm making for a friend. I miss cut once twice and then left the shop. I should have just stopped after the first mistake. Luckily it was only a $20 sheet of 1/4" ply that I lost.

How quickly I turn off the machines for the day is in direct relation to the price per board foot of the material in use.

Must have been something in the air I cut short the back panel on one of my cabinets by an 1". I had enough material to fix the mistake but still annoyed me since a measured not only twice but three times and still cut it short
Chip Sawdust
Haha at least I was cutting poplar so not wenge or sapele. My wife was putting up wallpaper a couple weeks ago and cut some short... maybe we can blame her for starting this!

Popular Post Ronn W
On another topic: Now that I have my new gouges, I have started learning to carve. I want to be able to add some ornamentation to my pieces. I found Mary May's online school and, after watching the 8 free lessons, subscribed for a year. I have a fair supply of basswood. A perfect way to practice carving and social distancing and not dirve my wife crazy - All at the same time. Gotta be careful not to cut myself for the next 4 days. I am going in for a procedure to fix my Afib and they don't like open wounds in surgery. Mary May has over 200 lessons on her site so maybe I will just binge watch and take notes with a dull pencil for now. Stay healthy everyone.

Chet
Well I spent most of the day prepping the raised vegetable beds for planting. Had some other yard tasks on the list but we got rained out.
