Besides not flexing these will add 18lbs each. Quickly looked last night and I think the holes line up. Given the shape that they're in, have you checked the flatness of them before you put in all of the effort? You can always shim them to be level with the saw top, but if there is a twist, you've got a different issue. I had an old Delta contractors that had a bow in the middle and I'd have to be really careful when using a sled that it didn't tilt into the bow and throw the cut off of 90°. 1 Quote

I did the same to an old Crafstman / Emerson contractor saw back in the day. That and tossing a plastic wrapped 90 pound sack of Redi-crete in the bottom of the base went a long way toward making that saw so much more solid. That experience made me a fan of excessive cast iron. Zip code saw from the past: Current Saw Stop: Like bandsaws and more horsepower, cab saws and more cast iron just seem to work 5 Quote

gee-dub Posted July 20, 2024 Report Posted July 20, 2024 Thankfully, cast-iron is surprisingly easy to drill. I remember the first time I drilled a cast-iron wing. I was full of apprehension. 10 seconds later I realized how easy it really was. 2 Quote
Popular Post legenddc Posted July 20, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 20, 2024 The wings are shockingly flat. I did check that after the initial cleaning. Bolts seems to line up okay. I need to go get some longer bolts but I was able to mount one without the washers. I will have to drill the power switch bracket to get that mounted again. 3 Quote
Popular Post gee-dub Posted July 20, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 20, 2024 Somehow got side tracked into doing a semi-restore on a piece of "furniture store" furniture that was my mom's. I tried to leave it behind at the estate sale but my wife is sentimentally attached to it. It has been rat-holed in one of the outbuildings for 5 years and did not fair so well. So instead of working on the scrap boxes I wanted to work on . . . I did that . Came out usable but, not fantastic. BTW, restoring furniture is one of my least favorite activities. Just sayin'. We do things for love . 5 Quote
Popular Post Von Posted July 21, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 21, 2024 Resawed my first board on the bandaw today. Much easier than I thought it would be. Granted it was a relatively small board of 20"x4"x1" ash but it became two 1/2" thick pieces without serious effort. Using it to fix an old wooden crate I bought, so I wanted some wood with a little character to match the rest of the crate. 7 Quote
Popular Post legenddc Posted July 21, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 21, 2024 Got the wings mounted up. I painted the sides black instead of having that Jet tan color and rust on the sides. Drilled a new hole in the power switch. My son decided to help with it. 9 Quote

wtnhighlander Posted July 21, 2024 Report Posted July 21, 2024 I need to watch watch for a local sale like that. I'd love to replace my saw's iron grid wings with solid ones. That looks awesome! 1 Quote
Popular Post legenddc Posted July 22, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 22, 2024 I was so excited to get the wings installed I neglected to run a test board through the saw. Will have to make a cut or two later to see if it's changed at all. 4 Quote
Coop Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 My wife and I are finally getting to do something together. Sheltering in place with Covid! 11 Quote

davewyo Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 Yikes Coop! I hope you get over it quick. From someone who is old and has compromised lung function, I can say that Covid should not to be underestimated. A co-worker of mine just had a case of the latest strain Covid and it was no fun. The flu-like symptoms lasted about a week, and she and her spouse didn't feel like doing much for about a week. 2 Quote
Popular Post wtnhighlander Posted July 23, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 23, 2024 Wishing you a speedy recovery, @Coop! Everyone reacts differently, but I've never heard anyone call Covid fun. 3 Quote
Coop Posted July 23, 2024 Report Posted July 23, 2024 Thanks guys. Another downside is that I went to my dermatologist on Friday to get a skin cancer removed from my scalp. I have constant allergy problems and figured the sniffles and slight cough were due to that. When my wife woke up on Saturday coughing and stopped up and my symptoms were worse, it prompted us to test. The first thing I did this morning was to call the derm’s office and break the news to them. Not looking forward to going back in two weeks to get the stitches removed. 1 3 Quote
Popular Post Chestnut Posted July 23, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 23, 2024 Made a window well cover from redwood and plexiglass from the box store. I'm not confidant it could hold an adult but it'll keep a pair of toddlers out of the window well. It's attached with hinges on the front and is VERY light weight. This window goes into my shop and is my main wood inlet. I also took delivery of a crab apple tree from my childhood neighbor's yard. My dad had the tree services load it on his trailer and hauled it down. By my count it was 45-50 years old and about 22" in diameter.I think i got 6 slabs out of it. The wood is very pretty. 8 Quote
legenddc Posted July 23, 2024 Report Posted July 23, 2024 Hope you and your wife are feeling okay Coop! Seems to be loads of Covid going around these days. I avoided it at work conference a few weeks ago thankfully. My son was running a fever last night and is home from camp this morning. No symptoms whatsoever besides a fever. 2 Quote

We had a fever run through our house the beginning of July that was just like that. Started with Our daughter, from daycare, then Megan and I, and eventually Owen got it. Luckily Ibuprofen took care of it really well but you can't give ibuprofen to a 5 week old. 2 Quote

Popular Post Tpt life Posted July 23, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 23, 2024 Yesterday and today watching my wife closely. Minor outpatient surgery yesterday, but coming out of general anesthesia is always a trip. Seems ok-ish today. Hopefully back to better than normal by the end of the week. 4 1 Quote
Popular Post legenddc Posted July 23, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted July 23, 2024 I just got back from the dentist and got my stitches removed from my gum graft two weeks ago. I can finally eat real food again, not just soft things. Still can't eat super crunchy things or brush the right half of my mouth for at least another two weeks but it's progress. I can now talk normally and exercise. On 7/23/2024 at 10:16 AM, Chestnut said: We had a fever run through our house the beginning of July that was just like that. Glad everyone is healthy now. Uh, I must have missed you had another kid. Congratulations! I was thinking about you last week. When I was cleaning up my tool room I came across the screws you had sent me back at the beginning of the year. Guess I still need to try them out. 3 Quote

I've used some of the ones that I bought as well and the combo drive is really nice. My main gripe with them is the head has the little rib in it to help couner sink. When i run a fastener against something metal like a figure 8 it leaves the screw head a bit more proud. 1 Quote
