Popular Post pkinneb Posted March 6 Popular Post Report Posted March 6 Over the last few days... I am upgrading my J/P to one with a helical like head and decided rather than dipping into my tool budget I should see if there were any tools I could part with to off set the costs. So the reason for the post is I have been rather surprised if not a little shocked at the prices I have been getting. I've sold 4 items for at, or in a couple cases more, than I paid for them Festool Domino - $300 more than I paid but several hundred less than new probably could have gotten more. Lie Nielsen plane - What I paid Vertitas Plane - $50 more than I paid but again still $60 less than new Festool ROS - $100 more than I paid. $100 less than new So if you have something on the shelf or in the tool cabinet that your not using might be a good time to part with it 6 Quote

Sometimes i regret it, but usually not. The one i really do regret was my lathe and a massive collection of lathe tools. Dang i wish I still had that. Live and learn. 3 1 Quote
Popular Post legenddc Posted March 6 Popular Post Report Posted March 6 Changed the engine air filter and cabin air filter on my wife's car so the old ones could go right out to the trash today. Will likely do the spark plugs over lunch if it's warm enough. Also cleaned up the finished part of our basement. I have to replace some of the LVP flooring from just before Christmas when the pressure relief valve on our water heater went. My daughter's birthday party is tomorrow so no time like the present... Yesterday my son's bike tube popped and sounded like a gunshot just after I went inside. Me and two neighbors ran out to see what happened. Replacement should be here tomorrow and I'll get it fixed in-between cabinet installation and party prep. 4 Quote
Tom King Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 Check to see that no spokes are too far to the inside of the wheel nuts. 2 Quote
legenddc Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 I will do that. He thinks he ran over a stick and that's when it popped. Just replaced the spark plugs. Took 15-20 minutes including cleaning up the tools. The Koken spark plug socket I bought has a retaining spring. No need for a magnet or rubber gasket. 1 Quote

Von Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 Went to our local Menards today and noticed they have what could be called a passable woodworking aisle with Glubots, carving tools, Kreg stuff, etc. Nowhere near a dedicated woodworking store but enough I'll start checking before assuming they don't have things. It seems like, locally at least, Lowes has been drifting to the contractor market and Menards is picking up the hobbyists. 2 Quote
Coop Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 @pkinneb, who did you list these thru? I have a RAS 115E that I’ve never used and would like to get rid of. Quote

I've found some good deals on Besssey clamps there every now and again. 1 Quote

Apparently those go for over $1,000 on ebay now. I typically list things on Facebook marketplace but I hate it. Sometimes you get no responses for a week or two, then a million “is this available?” messages. 1 Quote

FB Marketplace is definitely very active but also very unpredictable and has a large amount of BS (Is this available?, people not showing up for meets or otherwise flaking, etc.) I use Craigslist, which is definitely less active and slower, but I don't remember any contacts from anyone not serious. I will also list things directly to our local woodworking group (we have email and a FB page) but without much luck, I think that group tends to have most things they want already. I happily buy off ebay and etsy without any problems but don't sell there. We have a MWTCA meet coming up locally next weekend which is a great opportunity for good deals in my experience. The Indianapolis woodworking club also hosts swap meets occasionally, which are similar. Both have folks trying to make space not money. 3 Quote

I have a RAS 115E that I’ve never used and would like to get rid of. I use FB exclusively and have had really good experience using it over the last 5 or so years. A couple of things I always do: 1) I always start by saying "If add is up tool is available" 2) I do not include my phone number anymore. if they want to reach me going through Facebook messenger works great. 3) I will not give out my address until they are on they're way. If someone says they will be by after work I reply let me know when you are leaving and I'll provide my address. 4) If I sense anything from the buyer that seems odd I meet them at the gas station in town. My truck has 110 power outlets so they can power tools up if needed. 5) If someone lowballs me I just reply "No but thanks for your interest". I have a Festool sander out there now and got a response this am that said he could buy the sander new for close to $500 (my asking price) to which I replied "if you can you should snap it up as its a $650 + tax sander. Just a couple other comments. With woodworking tools i get much less nonsense than i do if I post non tool items on Facebook. The majority of my buyers have actually been pretty cool folks. The gentleman that came the other night came to buy a LN hand plane for$225 and left $650 dollars later with that plane, another Veritas plane, and some Narex mortise chisels I do have monitored security at my house with camera's pointed at the shop as well as inside the shop but even if I didn't I would buy a yard security sign and window stickers that show the shop is under surveillance 24x7. I got my ADT signs off ebay for $20 lol. Finally, I rarely if ever have to sell the items so if I can't get what I want I just pull the ad. Good luck! 6 Quote
Popular Post legenddc Posted March 7 Popular Post Report Posted March 7 Yes, selling woodworking tools gets you a different group of people than selling a cordless Dewalt drill. The Domino seems like it would be the perfect tool to rent but owning it seems like a waste unless you use it a lot. Right now I’m waiting at Dominos for pizza. My daughter’s request for her party. Happy to get away from 8 eleven year old girls. It’s loud at home! 4 Quote

Honestly its a great tool especially if portability is important to you. I hadn't used mine on a project since 2017 and since I have a PantoRouter, PM mortiser, and like cutting joinery by hand I decided I could get by without it. 3 Quote
Mark J Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 Do you limit sales to local buyers only, i.e. no shipping? Quote

legenddc Posted March 9 Report Posted March 9 I replaced the bike tire on Saturday evening while the girls were all running around at the party. Not sure if the tube went and ripped apart part of the tire where it meets the rim or vice versa. Either way, it's fixed and works. My son has ridden his bike for well over a mile so far. He had an all-star basketball game yesterday that he did really well on. Besides that, yesterday was a lazy day. All of us were tired and a couple of us have colds. Back to cabinets after work when there's time. 1 Quote
Popular Post Tom King Posted March 9 Popular Post Report Posted March 9 I put a side to side level indicator on the windshield of the excavator. I have a grade laser coming that has a receiver that clamps onto the stick with a magnet. This is much simpler so I can tell how level I'm sitting side to side. 4 Quote
Tom King Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 We had to bury a horse this morning. He was not feeling the best yesterday but was walking around eating and drinking water. We tried to get a Vet to come out, but none thought it was more important than what they were doing. He didn't wake up this morning. He was 25 years old. No one could wish for, or dream of a better horse. He was a 16.2 German Oldenburg that was born here. I ended up having to spend the whole night with him the night he was born and could do anything with him after that. He would have lived in the house with us if we had let him. There are six Olympic gold medals on his pedigree in both Show Jumping and Dressage. He was an amazing animal and we were most fortunate to have him in our lives. Already having an excavator here saved a lot of anxiety of having to go rent one, haul it here and carry it back. We buried him beside his Mother and were finished before 10 o'clock this morning. Having been here for 46 years now with horses, dogs, and cats, we have quite an animal grave yard. 7 Quote

Popular Post Tom King Posted March 11 Popular Post Report Posted March 11 Thanks. We've never had a horse to leave this fast. I don't think he suffered much and I was really dreading having to put a bullet in this one's head, so I was thankful to be spared that. 4 Quote
