Popular Post CharleyL
I make a lot of boxes, and I use Titebond II Extend. most of the time when assembling the box corners. Many of the corner joints that I make are box joints, so I need the extra time for assembly. Most of my "better" boxes are full length mitered spline joints in solid wood with cross grain splines in the mitered corners, and I'm finding that it's much easier to glue these together with the TB II Extend as well. The photos below are of boxes that I made a couple of weeks ago from 1/2" Baltic Birch with 1/4" tops an bottoms. Who said "you can't cut good box joints in plywood". It works OK for me. These were built to hold some of my shop tools to keep all of the accessories and small parts together with the tool. Although they came out pretty good, they are just "Tool Boxes" and will remain in my shop. I can do better when making nice boxes, like jewelry and cosmetic boxes.. Gilgaron
You can make your own with this recipe I like: http://www.workbenchdiary.com/2015/01/convert-to-collagen-free-printable.html?m=1 you can even make quite a bit and freeze the extra. The granules keep forever, more or less. i bought mine from Bjorn Hide Glue, but their webapage isn’t pulling up for me at the moment. Cheaper than supplier middlemen, for sure, although I think the minimum order was a pound of granules. If you decide you like hide glue the leevalley glue pot is very worth while. Tom King
Per a tip from Derek, I use one of these. It works fine, and even has a lift out little tub. Mine doesn't have "wax warmer" written on it, but it looks just like this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Salon-Spa-Hair-Removal-Hot-Paraffin-Wax-Warmer-Pot-Depilatory-Heater-Machine/172358885946?epid=27013336831&hash=item282163e23a:g:VPAAAOSwmfhX7gmP
Kevin Lerma
I have been using hide glue for years for gluing up my violins. I have used glue from JR music supply in RI. I stay away from the liquid hide glues because of all the urea contained within. The stuff I use is defiantly reversible and it has a fantastic scent, uck. I make up just enough for a week and i throw it out after that time. I store it in the evening in the refrigerator. This seems to work for me.
