wdwerker
1/32 spacers ! Consider me quite impressed, 1/16 isn't easy. Your repairs turned out well, that's the true measure of skill ,well just short of perfection but that rarely happens until you've built 4 or 5 of the same piece.
JosephThomas
That repair looks great. What am I looking at in the last pic?

Popular Post pkinneb
Someone had asked about the hinges they are 1 1/4" Brusso hinges Started today out with some sharpening, ok got sidetracked for like 2 hours sharpening... but hey everything is sharp again so time well spent Next up was to plane the inside face of each drawer piece All done and ready for the next step Marked the base lines on all the pieces surprising how long this took Then I decided on the layout and made a test piece I set up my 7.5 degree grind blade in the TS Using a stop block on the zero clearance fence I made yesterday I knocked out the tails in quick fashion A little clean up to the baselines with chisel Now they are all ready to mark and cut the pins Which I will begin tomorrow evening

Popular Post pkinneb
Got the DT kit out. I learned to cut DT's from Rob Cosman a couple years ago and its the same process I use today. Cut some practice joints since I haven't done it in a while, not perfect not terrible I have I mentioned how much I hate having to do any thing with wenge that isn't sanding? This stuff is not the best choice for DT's should have gone with the plans which used a simple rabbit joint but where would the fun be in that right Won't be much to post for the next few days as I cut these all out. Hoping to do two drawers a night
Popular Post pkinneb
Well a few days turned into 11 days with no shop time ...and unfortunately after tomorrow I won't have much more time this month due to travel over the next two weeks but I did get out there today and was able to knock the DTs out on the first four drawers. I like to put a small lip on the tail board so I can get a positive registration while marking for the pins just takes a couple passes I also use a fret saw to remove the waste rather than chopping it all out four down two to go Next up finish the last two drawers then put the grooves in for the bottoms and the runners. Hope to have that all complete before I head to see my daughter in MI on Thursday.

wdwerker
Looks like you've got all the nice toys for cutting dovetails ! I've been lusting after a Knew Concepts saw but haven't had a project that would justify buying one yet. The titanium ones are so light & strong , but so expensive !
Chestnut
You keep saying wenge is so aweful but it just makes me want to try it even more. I love the look of the drawer fronts. I think the look is worth the splinters.

LOL they are expensive but compared to my old fret saw you can tension the blade tight enough to take almost all of the flex out of it which is great when cutting next to the base lines. I figure I really don't have many bad habits that I spend money on so I pretty much buy what I want even if the price is a bit insane. I am also to the point where I have most of the big stuff so if I buy a few pricey hand tools it still doesn't hurt the tool budget to much. In fact I have been running a surplus for a couple years Having said that I keep lusting over that Felder J/P Llama has which would definitely put a huge defficit into it 1 hour ago, Chestnut said: You keep saying wenge is so aweful but it just makes me want to try it even more. I did a science experiment in sixth-grade, that demonstrated blood type identification. Those are the same lancets we used on our volunteers to draw samples. Coop
Dt’s look great Paul. 15 days and counting. Steve, the splinter out dealy, the tip also is a blade?
wdwerker
The tip is quite sharp it's triangular but it's not like a scalpel. It excels at getting those elusive tiny splinters that manage to grab your total attention. That's why I keep one in my wallet.

Popular Post pkinneb
I can't believe it's been 7 weeks since my last full day in the shop and since I posted to this build, that's ridiculous! First up was to route the stopped grove for the drawer bottoms at the router table Next up I cut the bottoms out of 1/8" BB plywood Then glued them up Then with a light touch I flushed them up on the belt sander Finally I fit the runners and glued them in Next up I will final fit them to the case and start work on the drawer fronts.
Coop
Fantastic progress, no, really! But April 23rd has come and gone. Hopefully you treated her to a nice 3 carat ring and steak & lobster diner on the special day with promises of much greater to come with more shop time. Looking great as always bud.
Chet
I bet it felt good to get back at it. And in your defense Paul, I don't think you mentioned which of your wife's birthdays you were making this for. But at the rate you are progressing I see no problem getting this finished by April of 2019

In my defense we moved half way through and I had to build a new shop before work could continue
