bushwacked
HIs new video on this table ... How would you go about connecting the top 2 top pieces ... or building it to where it made it easier to connect them? he talks more about it with his base build ... Brendon_t
What top two? The parts that are interrupted by the Chevron?
lewisc
I skipped through this build and I think he used dominos to connect the top without glue. Although I can't say I'm a huge fan of such a busy table top.

Definitely a busy top but his solution for the top seems a little iffy.
bushwacked
got a screenshot of the underside hardware keeping the 2 top pieces together
wtnhighlander
That solution was his idea to manage wood movement in multiple directions. Only time will tell if it works.
Dennis O'Shea
Not a fan of the top

Chestnut
Didn't he make a video bashing the crap out of festool and specifically the dominio? Also if i were to do the top i'd consider the chevron to be it's own part and attach it like a breadboard but in the middle of the table. The way he does it i see him having a gap in the middle at the chevron half the year. When all else fails, veneer. I thought it was a cutting board at first.... wtnhighlander
Yep. Veneer is probably the best way to avoid having the thing rip apart. Although David's solution is interesting. I'm curious to see how it holds up.
Barron
In the base build he uses pocket screws, but recommends figure eight clips. Z clips would also work. I like the look OK, but veneer over plywood or mdf would be my choice.
wdwerker
He bashes the Domino but uses pocket screws ? Both have their place but the wood movement issue is gonna circle around to bite him eventually.
bleedinblue
IIRC that video didn't necessarily bash the Domino exactly, just pointed out cheaper options for the same task...is that the video that he built a table using different joinery for each apron/leg joint? It was definitely one of his weaker videos. When he got the new shop he drastically improved his tooling...I haven't paid attention to see if his way of thinking changed. **I just watched his video of the table base build. Ugh. Pretty painful. Rout right through pin nails for round overs, saw dust, glue and screwdriver burnishing to hide bad miter.....etc. I guess his level of work has NOT gone up with the quality of his shop.**
