I’ve got a thick rubber mat in the back of my Colorado, a single layer of wood stays put but a large load gets strapped down.

I usually put a 4x4 cut to the box on the back but forgot it this day. I've never had an issue though just need to make sure you run the strap tight all the way around the wood not just over the top.
Chestnut
Oh i know i did say irrational. I also like tailgate up because while car jousting sounds fun i don't trust people to see the lumber past their cell phone screen. Again not based on any rational thought. Supposed to be 5' but that is from under the front lip which means I have to leave the tailgate down when I get BB ply which is unfortunate. Regarding projects that was used in my side table and end table builds and there is enough left for my Morris chair build but that will have to wait until I am done with the basement so most likely a Jan or Feb 2019 start.
Damon777
I do tailgate up most of the time. Yes, I know I was way over weight. It was 10 miles on back roads going 40 tops.
