houstonwoodworker
Hi, question....I’m doing my first drawers that are wood on wood and will wax them to slide smoothly. My question is.....should I finish (using arm r seal) and then wax or should I wax the drawer runners and not put finish on them? Also I have Renaissance wax, is this sufficient?? Coop
I use Johnson Paste Wax after the ARS but I’m sure the Renaissance is good as well. I’m sure you can add either to bare wood also.
..Kev
Finish then wax or don't finish but still wax. Depends on what you want to do. I prefer Renaissance wax.
mat60
I haven't done allot of wood draw runners but next to my table saw I made a quick storage chest and used Johnson Paste wax on the unfinished wood draw runners and was surprised how well they worked and how long it lasted. RichardA
Complete your finish, then wax the drawers and the drawer runners. What brand of wax you use makes very little difference. You can even rub a candle on those places.
Mick S
All of the above advice works well and has for many generations. I stopped using wax on wood runners when I was introduced to this tape - https://www.amazon.com/UHMW-TAPE-19-20A-5-36-Adhesive-Transparent/dp/B01MSZTXG8/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1537667895&sr=8-10&keywords=uhmw+tape A strip along the top of the drawer runner lasts years and years and makes them slide like buttah! Coop
I just bought some similar from Rockler as I needed to raise the drawer just a silly millimeter.
treeslayer
I've used Slipit, available at most woodworking stores, works great but all of the above work just as well and cheaper.
houstonwoodworker
Ok so I will use arm r seal and then wax. How do I apply the wax? Put on a liberal amount and let it dry and then remove excess and buff out?
..Kev
I apply with an old t-shirt and don't let it dry much.. When I'm done putting it on, I start wiping it off.
