Table Saw! Powermatic vs. SawStop vs. your favorite!

Does anyone remember when cutting wood was done with a handsaw? It's interesting how woodworking was all done with hand tools.

I'm 76, and I remember when there were fewer machines in woodworking. But hand tools still get more attention in my shop than the machines.

I downsized as well when I went from my PM66 52" to the PCS 36". I found cutting down sheet stock with my track saw was easier than hulking it into the shop and up on the TS.

I rarely buy full sheets of anything any more because I don't have a truck. Rockler and most big box stores sell smaller sheets - 1/2, or 1/4 and those are way easier for me to deal with.

At Rockler we also sell Baltic Birch in a sheet that's something close to 5'x3' and that's PERFECT. it's large enough to make a larger project out of but small enough to fit in my small SUV.

If I go to the big box stores, I get a full sheet and have them cut it into (4) 2x4 sheets. Far cheaper than buying the small sheets. They’ve never resisted doing it and have never charged me the cut fees, whether I get one sheet or five.

I’ve bought some BB sheets from Woodcraft when I’ve needed it in a hurry. Otherwise I occasionally rent or borrow a truck to make a run to the lumber yard and try to plan ahead with what I might need.
