Finishing shop furniture...

Recommended Posts

Trying to get my ducks in a row for my first major project, the WW Miter saw cabinet.  This will be my first piece of shop furniture.  Being that it's shop furniture, what is the rule of thumb for finishing it?  What product would you use?  Something easily repeatable, maybe a little waterproofing just in case.

It really comes down to personal preference. Some will say don’t finish at all at the other end of the spectrum are folks like me who view their shop just as I would any ww project I do. In my case i used 3 coats of satin polyurathane on everything but my bench which has an oil finish.

I usually spray a water borne finish Like General Finishes High Performance.  Mainly because it is fast and drys fast.  Some of my early shop furniture pieces I used Deft Lacquer but the smell of that stuff really lingers for days.
