Popular Post Ronn W
I did not fully document this build but wnated to share a few pics. All solid cherry except for the back which is cherry veneer on plywood and the center the crown which is wanut veneer on plywood. New techniques and methods for this project are the crown and the base. My goal was to have the clock face appear to be floating in mid air. s0, for those of you familiar with clock mechanisms, this is a front mounted mechanism but it is mounted to a frame that is mounted to the rear of the case. Working on the crown... Case....The case is dovetailed but they are all hidden in the completed piece. oh well, it was good practice. Door Box that suports the mechanism mechanism is removable from the front (lift and pull) Pics of completed clock.......all that's left is to adjust the timing over the next few days. 14
Chet
That came out really nice Ronn. Great work on your part. Did you do the sun burst veneer or is that some thing that was pre-made?

JohnG
Looks great! What’s a good source for quality clock mechanisms and parts? I have a clock on my to-do list as a gift for my mother.

Six wedges of walnut veneer on 1/4" plywood. 5 hours ago, treeslayer said: Beautiful work Ronn, as usual, and sure to get better with age. can you detail how you did the curves? The arch on top: MDF pattern first cut with circle jig and table router. Rough cut curve on band saw using the pattern and smooth with a pattern bit. Had to make a half circle jig clamped to router fence to act like a circular fence to cut the groove in the arch. Bottom done in 3 pieces - Cut cove part on table saw, convex part is hand planed. Then cut for miters and glued with splines. Thin pices were mitere and then glued on separately. 1 hour ago, JohnG said: "What’s a good source for quality clock mechanisms and parts?
