Chestnut
Sometimes winner isn't so great other times i find it incredibly beautiful. The last 24 hours managed both. Despite the beautiful snow the ice that preceded it was not so enjoyable.
wtnhighlander
That is a really beautiful shot, Drew. It is rare that we see any significant snow here. This week is more typical. A high of 80* today, but Tuesday's forecast calls for snow flurries.

Popular Post curlyoak
Lignum vitae. Slow growing tree. The wood has use in all kinds of things. Including clock parts. It was over harvested a long time ago. The wood is so heavy it sinks.

Popular Post curlyoak
Known as the pigeon orchid. Can you see the 2 pigeons in flight? It is a larger plant and a small bloom as this plant goes. Regardless of how many flowers, when in bloom this plant yells at you. The perfume is pleasant but very strong. So anywhere in sight you will smell it. Then it holds you because of the pigeon factor. And you linger if you know this plant. Because the bloom lasts only 36 hours. Fortunately it will bloom several times a year.

Popular Post Gary Beasley
Several years ago we were visiting a lavender farm and encountered a gentleman selling plants. We got several lilies and irises and planted them. The lilies sprouted and bloomed quickly but the irises were much slower. This spring the sprouted bud stems and a couple of days ago I walked out to find blooms open.

Popular Post curlyoak
Night Blooming Cereus. A tropical cactus. It is growing on a palmetto tree. I have planted orchids on this tree. So the cactus gets watered and fed because of the orchids. Warm summer heavy downpours stimulate the cactus to bloom. The flower, as big as my head, is once and done. The bloom opens around midnight and is closed by 11 AM. Peaks at dawn. In the middle picture at the bottom there are some unopened blooms that opened the next morning. It will bloom several times in the summer. This cactus produces dragon fruit. No good bought in the store. But if you can get one vine ripe it is a delicious taste. For those that don't eat spinach because of its looks will not taste this either. Same is true for persimmons. They must be tree ripened.
