Coyote Jim
I have a small box that I am finishing up and the last step will be adding some paste wax and I am all out of cheesecloth. The cheesecloth I had previously was given to me by my Dad and it was probably 30+ years old. So I need to buy some more. Is there a high quality cheesecloth out there or are they all the same and I should not worry about it? The oil finish needs to cure so I have some time before I need it. pkinneb
I have never had much luck with cheese cloth so I switched to lint free rags I get at HD or if on a finished surface I use microfiber towels from my car washing cabinet. Minnesota Steve
The only thing I'm aware of is that it comes in different fineness... coarse through fine. The fine stuff is more like muslin cloth. I'm not sure about quality, I suspect there probably is better makers but I don't know who they are. My wife makes farmers cheese occasionally using buttermilk and uses cheesecloth for that, and I have no idea where she buys it but I suspect it's at the grocery store. treeslayer
I use the microfiber towels from HF, cheap or free with a coupon
Coyote Jim
I used old tee shirts for wax for a really long time then I decided to do what the wax says on the tin and apply with cheese cloth and I'll never go back to tee shirts or rags for wax again. I recommend trying it if you have not. Cheese cloth was also the way to go when I was learning shellac.
Just Bob
We use cheese cloth a lot for canning, we pick it with the canning supplies. I also use in the shop.
Mark J
I would suspect the food industry would be most interested in a cheese cloth that was lint free and didn't disintegrate.
Stephen Prunier
L.V. has it in rolls. I just ordered some yesterday. I use it inside of a piece of cotton to make a wiping pad/ball for hand applying finishes. For applying wax I sometimes use #0000 steel wool that I dampen with solvent then dip in the paste wax an apply.
