Dust collector for small shop

Hi,

i have a small shop with a 3 hp Sawstop and a 12 inch Grizzly jointer planet combo. Been looking for a good cyclone dust collector due to sharing the garage with the laundry area. The amount of information and opinions on the web are dizzying. I have been leaning towards the Ineida dust gorilla mini and do not want to run duct work so will go machine to machine. Is this my best option? The CFM is low at 570 ish with a 10 foot hose. Do I need to be looking at 3hp or will the gorilla pull enough fine dust?

Thanks John

Hi John, welcome.

I can almost guarantee that you'll come to regret that decision. Been there myself. At first it was just dragging a shop vac & hose around, which was an annoyance, but then doing it with a 4" hose was awful. Even a minimal amount of duct would be a huge benefit. It's not hard to do.

570 CFM really is minimal and again, you're not likely to be happy with it. 3 HP is good enough for lot of people, but 5 HP is better.

You want to get something that has HEPA filtration, and the cyclone should be quite tall for better separation. That means the it will need close to 8' ceiling height by the time you get a barrel under it.

Honestly there are FAR too many variables to say Xhp will work. With a well setup efficient system a 1.5hp DC could be enough for a 1 man shop. 2hp would make things a lot easier. 3hp is enough to run 2  4" machines at once. 5hp is big enough to run 2 6" machines at once. 4" and 6" are the dust port size.

If you minimize flex hose and move from tool to tool I don't doubt that collector would capture as much dust as a 4" port could collect. The 570 CFM is with 2" WC pressure drop on the hose so that assumes probably 10 feet of flex.Less flex hose is less pressure which is more suction.

I have a 3hp gorilla pro their hepa filters are good and efficient.
