lewisc
Until today. I set the incra mitre gauge close to the blade to give as much support as possible for a small piece of timber to cut some angles. Once done, I set the angle (saw tilts to the right) and then made my cut. I wondered for a second where the aluminium shavings were coming from. It wasn’t a smart moment.
Mark J
Oh man. The worst part is the daily reminder (or maybe that's the "lemonade" part).
Chestnut
Just hack 1cm off the end. You didn't need a fence that long anyway. That sucks. I've been super careful with my miter gauges but i bet it's only time until I do this to one of mine as well. If it bothers you enough incra does sell replacement parts. https://www.incrementaltools.com/PARTS_INCRA_Miter_1000HD_p/pc-miter1000hd.htm
treeslayer
I know a lot of guys with the Incra and 50% of them have a similar cut mine included, stupid mistake for sure, I’m glad they are aluminum
Coop
Apparently you don’t have a SS or your story would have been longer!
treeslayer
While we’re in the subject does anyone know if the 27” bar from the Incra 3000 work on the 1000HD that comes with the 18” bar, I could use the extra reach sometimes, thanks
Popular Post fcschoenthal
You could always consider it a gauge to find that angle again. 1
Tpt life
File the edges. Don’t risk getting cut on those sharp bits. That cut appears to be minor and a great reminder for us.
Tom King
They sell replacement parts, but that cut doesn't look like it will matter a bit.
Popular Post gee-dub
Here's an idea I tried awhile back and have never left. Mill a bit of hardwood to fit inside the Incra tube. I milled a couple of feet and have not run out yet. It only takes a few inches to make a new "flag". I have a few "flags" for various tasks. They all change out quickly with one screw that happened to already have a hole in the extrusion. It was one of those cobbled together solutions that stuck with me. My miter gauge fence is highly modified from the original intent but, the addition of the sacrificial "flag" could still work on a stock tube. 7
legenddc
They also sell the hardware to attach a wood sacrificial piece over the front of the fence.
lewisc
It’s only cosmetic but it will bug me a bit every time I see it. Lesson learned. Thankfully it was just aluminium and not more serious. @gee-dub Thanks for those pics. I’m didn’t even think of modding it. You don’t like the Incra flip stop? Popular Post JohnG
You could make the cut longer and fill the void with epoxy to make the first ever River (TM) miter gauge.
curlyoak
I've had my incra 1000 15 or more years. I like it and use it a lot. I have a few pieces of wood that have a piece of wood that looks like a flag at the end of a stick. For a stop. I clamp it on to the fence and I can get longer repeat cut. Reliable. I just got new bushings or parts that fit into the piece that goes into the table saw slot. Made it like brand new. Didn't cost much. I have a 6" incra square. Also reliable. Or you could find a chunk of aluminum with some of the raw ore still stuck to it & make a live edge gauge.

I just happened to have already standardized on the Rockler stuff before I bought the gauge. I use the same Rockler stops on the miter gauge, DP fence and router table fence. Its a paradox; I will try to make items in the shop do double-duty to avoid snow-drifts of accessories and will then turn around and have 3 or 4 of something so I can have one at each station where I use it
Rick_J
I did something similar on my Saw Stop a while back. No shavings for me... things happen too fast to generate shavings. But I sure didn't have to wonder what happened. Instantaneous quiet... no saw blade in sight! When I looked at my miter gauge, I could barely see the nick in the metal. Bankstick
The Ryobi saw I bought a few years ago had a "kerf" in the plastic cap on the end of the miter. Took it off as i didn't need it.
