Popular Post Dave H
I've been making some Christmas presents, little hand launch helicopter toys you see them at stores usually made of plastic. Anyway I had to make the first one with my array of rasps and files it took hours to make my first prototype it worked great but, I'm making 10 so I made a jig to support the propeller securely and bought a Shinto rasp holy crap this thing does an amazing job for $20+ I've only been using the fine side of the rasp and it hog off the material rapidly between the jig and, rasp I'm getting 1 propeller sanded and, ready for the dowel in less then a 1/2 hr. The rasp leaves a consistently flat surface and a smooth face very little sanding, I've seen these around forever, I'm a believer now!

gee-dub
+1, I am also a believer. Great for sculpted items a-la Maloof. A good compliment to your other rasps and shaping tools.
Dave H
My only complaint would be I wish there was a half round feature, oh well I have 3-4 old rasps that will work just not as fast.

Popular Post Mark J
These must be stealth copters, I don't see any pictures. 1
Dave H
Weird I see them in my post, how is that possible? I'm seeing them on my computer maybe they don't show up on a smart phone or something hmmm. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to technology I need my granddaughter to fix whatever I screw up on my I-phone so I'm sure it's something I did wrong. Does anyone else besides me see the photos in my last post?
Dave's Not Here
Nope, I can't see them either.
Popular Post Dave H
How about now, are the pictures showing up now I had just copied and pasted them last time? This time I use the choose files feature it still bugs me because I can see the pics on my first post of copter pics asked for by @fcschoenthal anyway it's a mystery to me.

curlyoak
Just got the rasp. It seems each side has a smooth and coarse, depending on the direction of the stroke. I like the package it comes in. It is reusable and could last a long time. And protect the tool. Everything is in Japanese. Likely to be some useful info. Do they do enough business beyond Japan to create an English version?

wtnhighlander
Do you spin those by hand, or use a tube launcher and pull string?

Dave H
5 minutes ago, K Cooper said: @higtron, do you have a link to making these? no I had a plastic on that my daughter and I played with when she was little we always had a good time making up games for it. I was looking through some box's and found it so I thought that would be fun to make everyone one for Christmas I cut some maple 1 1/2" x 10" x 1/4" found the exact center of the blank drilled a 1/16" hole all the way through used a compass to draw a 1" Dia. circle which is the hub cut the shape of the helicopter thingy and with razor knife and chisel defined the hub than I used the Shinto rasp to plane down the blades I had to make a jig to hold the blank so it was supported so it doesn't flex and you have that clamped to the bench and the blank clamped to the jig after you do the first one and make every possible mistake then your an expert like me I wish I had taken pictures of the process I'm horrible about that I'll take picture of the jig and shims it would be pretty self explanatory if you saw the jig. Coop
So the slope/angle/pitch of the blade is essentially from the high side down to almost a knifes edge, then flip it over and do the same to the other side?
