"Rough" Lumber Sources

Recommended Posts

Hello:  I'm ia hobbyist in the Denver area and looking for sources of "rough'  lumber so that I can save some money and use my 15" planer.  It seems like for the searching I've done, rough and planed lumber are priced similarly. Any advice/guidance greatly appreciated. Dan

Similar situation with a couple of suppliers I found here in Tennessee. Rough or planed, close to the same price.

I prefer rough, as it is thicker, and I can surface just prior to use, normally ending up with more than 3/4" from 4/4 rough. Pre-surfaced boards are around 7/8, and may have moved before I get them, so require jointing & planing again to get flat. That ends up giving me boards < 3/4" thick.

The only reason I go to the place that pre-surfaces is because they are open Saturdays.
