danglin
Help me think through this. I have a bad case of visual spatial disorder- the part of my brain responsible for that must be full of stump water. I have 5 inch wide ash ready for glue-up and slab work. I want to leave the slab a bit thicker than the 4 inch recommended norm, probably around 4.5 inches or even greater. I know from the templates that the bottom of the tail vise cavity must be a specific distance from the top of the slab. So it looks like the tail vise cavity and the guide rails for the tail vise assembly must be routed correspondingly deeper. Is there anything else in the construction that comes to mind that I should pay special attention to with a thicker top? Pardon the dumb question. Thanks David
Tpt life
You need to plan your hold downs. Whatever you use may need thickness to be more or less. That’s easier to address when your slabs can be easily flipped to bore relief if needed.
Chestnut
I have a 4.5" think bench top and had to back bore the round holes to get hold fasts to grip. This isn't a big deal if you aren't using them or if you plan ahead. This for the arched hammer use type. The ones that you tighten with a screw may not be impacted.
