new substitute for paper towels, and toilet paper

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure exactly how effective it's going to be, but it looks like our grocery store gave up on ever having paper towels, or toilet paper on the shelves where they normally were.

They still have the signs above for both, but the shelves have been completely taken over by cases of beer.

Check the beer aisle?

Yeah, some of the younger generation, even though they've graduated high school still can't read without acronyms.

No paper bags here, for years, even though we're in the middle of timber country.

I don't understand where are the paper products are going.  The local dollar stores get a small supply in, one day a week, and it's quickly gone.

My understanding is there's plenty of TP available but it's available in commercial size rolls. As everyone suddenly went home to do their business the businesses didn't need the commercial rolls. I guess the TP industry is fairly regular so maximum efficiency was already in place.

Our shelves aren't full but when we go shopping (Friday mornings) there is alway something there.  It may not be you preferred brand but something.  We have only had to purchased one time during this whole thing but getting close to needing some again and I really don't understand what people are doing with it all.

We're good.  It was just curious that the grocery store, and the Sam's that Pam went to have been out for a while.

There was a big supply in each of the museum houses I look after.   I'll need to do some replacing before this Christmas season.

Never understood the hoarding TP thing throughout this entire epidemic. I mean it was affecting the lungs I don't remember ever seeing explosive diarrhea as one of the symptoms.

Maybe not "explosive", but diarrhea is a less common symptom. We get quizzed on a list of items, including that one, before being allowed through the gate at work. And checked for fever.

It wasn't the hording so much as the shift from commercial TP at work places to retail TP for house use.

TP is readily available here, paper towels are more scarce.

I really want to share that with Megan Charmin relabel is her TP of choice and we haven't been getting it here.

That led to panic...which led to hoarding. I think you are just backing up a step. Some hoarding did happen.

So what's the story with hand sanitizer and liquid hand soap?  Both still seem to be in short supply.

I can understand hand sanitizer going to hospitals, but if so many people hoarded paper towels, and TP, it seems like there would at least be some available this much past the beginning of this.   There hasn't been any for anyone to hoard for some months now.  If anything, it seems like there would be an over-supply now.

I think that's true for a whole pantheon of pandemic pantry needs.  Where did these products go?  Why was manufacturing and distribution unable to keep up.

I think these are questions that need serious investigation when we get to have a pandemic postmortem.

And we need to have a pandemic post mortem.

So true. There's been waves of shortages of products.

  • First few weeks it was TP, paper towels, etc.
  • The haircutting supplies and exercise equipment
  • Lately it seems to be bikes. Go try to find a children's bike, they're all sold out. Saw a story from a local bike shop that said everything around here is sold out besides $1,500+ bikes.

I see the alternative interpretation , but I think you get my intent.
