Hammer5573
I’m finishing up a Demilune table and I’m having trouble getting the edgebanding to glue up. There are areas where it has separated from the wood surface. It’s constructed of Sapele and I made sure that the glue surface was clean and smooth before applying the banding. I removed the banding (without much difficulty) and I’m preparing to do it again . I made some curved cauls and I planning to use Titebond II for the reapplication? Does this sound like a good plan? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
wtnhighlander
Sounds like a plan. The only additional step I can think of would be to steam and pre-shape the banding to match the curve as closely as possible.
Barron
Not sure about sapele, but on some tropical hardwoods it’s good to wipe the edge with denatured alcohol or mineral spirits before glue up to clean off any oils.
Popular Post Ronn W
It's been about 4 years but I banded a 4" wide apron for my dinette table with 1/8" thisck white oak. The surface was curved. I applied a coat of Titebond to both surfaces and let it dry until tacky then appied a second coat and let it dry until it was skinned over and I could touch it without getting glue on my hands. Then I heated up my wife's old iron and worked my way around ironing the banding in place. It's still there. The heat reactivates the glue and it cools quickly once you have ironed it.

Hammer5573
It was pre-glued and glued along the edge of the tabletop
