BillyJack
I need something for the boat to hold braided scissors, long pliers, etc. I found a few only $35+. This one was $139. It might as well been $13,999, cause after $19.99 my mind starts to drift elsewhere. I think I can make it and cover it in Flex Seal.... Any suggestions? Coop
It would be neat if you could find an ABS plastic sheet to make it from.
BillyJack
I think lowes sells It. My concern is II won't need it when I do the modification.
curlyoak
A product for marine is called starboard. Comes in colors. It cuts, routes, drills and planes. It will not sand, paint or clue. It holds screws very we'll with proper size holes. It holds up against the elements well. But it isn't cheap.

Gary Beasley
Find some cypress or other extremely weather resistant wood to make it from if marine ply is too hard to source.
Chet
Wood then paint it with Epoxy.
wtnhighlander
I think your idea of using a Flex-Seal product is quite valid. I've been watching a custom camper build, where they made a shower pan from ordinary plywood and coated it (heavily) with a pour-on Flex-Seal product. May as well have been molded fiberglass. BillyJack
If I can find something in the shop , make ir, seal it and get through the summer, I'm happy... When your fishing and catch a nice size fish, hunting for pliers is a pita. Hunting for braid cutters, etc is a pita..
G Ragatz
If it really only needs to last through the summer, I wouldn't bother with the Flexseal - the stuff's not all that cheap, especially if this is the only use you have for it. Just finish it with whatever you have sitting around the shop.
Popular Post BillyJack
I have flex seal sitting around the shop. Still have the clear from the radio box. I'm getting ready to drill out rod holders as well. I carry 5 rods but may only use one depending on the fishing and there scattered on the boat. I'm fishing 3 days a week and there are several months left in the season. I'm afraid I'll either step on a rod or trip, and go swimming.. I got my 6'6 rod back that was repaired and made it a 5'9. Tried it out and that bad boy can really cast now..I put a Rick Clunn reel on it I've had new sinse 2010 and finally getting to use it..
Tom King
The top of my wooden tractor canopy is coated with white Flexseal. It has held up fine, including more than I wanted it to outside. I don't see any way to make a pretty surface with it though. No one can see the top of that canopy.
Coop
I have a birdbath that my mom gave me many years ago that developed a leaky crack. I applied two heavy coats of the white last year and it holds water fine.
BillyJack
I'm all "poor boy fishing".. I re use plastic baits that ain't too tore up, I'll take a pair of pliers to a hook bent on a stump, I don't change fishing line every year cause I figure when I break it the next bit of line is new. Only time I really get pissed is when a crappie tears the tail off my Culprit worm... when I start wishing I had some M-80's
BillyJack
I started the rod holders, 2 on each side. Because I hadn't made these before they werent perfect. Some of the handle touches the aluminum, so I'm looking for self stick carpet. I think you can buy this in small sheets you cut out for legs on furiture that sit on hardwoods The other question came up, if I finish these with flex seal could there be a chemical reaction to my rods. This would be a problem...
legenddc
Could you make them out of some cheap plastic cutting board?
BillyJack
If I do the conversion they will be trashed. Nothing at this time is permanent.
wtnhighlander
@BillyJack, it seems unlikely that the Flex-Seal would be reactive, once cured.
BillyJack
I'm gonna put vinyl around the inside of the hole. Either stapled or self stick. I sprayed the flex seal on them. I'll only put one coat as to keep it from soaking in...
