joe mendel Posted January 13, 2022 Report Posted January 13, 2022 The use of gaboon ebony, holly, maple, and mahogany (African and Honduran), are the materials of the majority. These elements stack upon the tri-foot base which I posted a week ago. I refer to these elements as: tiers, ogee arches and the rotunda. The elements of the rotunda are architecturally correct to the best of knowledge, (the internet would not lie). As is my regular practice, I made four finials of each type to choose the three best. The Flame finials are two piece units with the base plate just being held in place by the post from the bottom of the finial passing though it and friction fit into the posts. The orb on top of the rotunda is maple which has been gold-leafed. The finial sits on top of the structure and is held in place with a rare earth magnet in the orb and a screw embedded in the top of the rotunda. I used the same bandings on the top of the structure as are on the base. The bandings are the same on the lobbed medallion and the ogee arches. 1
