Hammer5573
I’ve been making dovetail joints for a while now and I’m usually satisfied with the results; however, my pins are wider than the ones that I see in contemporary furniture. I’ve attempted to make them with the more narrow pins that are so popular today but I have trouble marking the tail margins on the pin board because my marking knife won’t reach into the narrow pin socket deep enough. I know that Rob Cosman sells a marking tool, but I’m sure that there are other tools being used. What are people using to to this..?
wtnhighlander
I have a 1/4" wide spear point marking knife that I made from a Hock Tools blade. It reaches into most nooks and crannies. The tool Cosman promotes has the advantage of marking a kerf that your DT saw drops right in to.
Chestnut
Veritas marking knife. .https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/hand-tools/marking-and-measuring/marking-tools/69870-veritas-workshop-striking-knife?item=05D2005&utm_source=free_google_shopping&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&gclid=CjwKCAiAprGRBhBgEiwANJEY7G8iKTkgop0R1L9hX2hvsxiqqX9AKs2ALaJAfBHthu0aCZWC_WPAIBoCI6QQAvD_BwE I'm limited by chisel width with one of these. I resharpen mine and they are pretty inexpensive but they hold an edge a long time. Getting a few isn't a bad idea.
Popular Post Just Bob
I make my own. Got the idea from @derekcohen web site. Easy to make with used jig saw blades.
