JeniDufour
Hi! I sanded slightly and used Citristrip. I left it on overnight because a test after an hour did nothing. It looks like spots are burned. Like certain spots are darker now after removing with mineral spirits. Can I fix this? How? Coop
It looks like the Citristrip did a fair job on the first go around. I would reapply and use a small brass bristle brush to work it into the wood. The darker area on the top of the vertical piece(s) looks to be burns from the saw blade and can only be removed with a lot of sanding if those are important. Dave H
The wood may have been torched (scorched?) as an element of the finishing process I think it was a 60's, 70's thing you don't see it that often anymore. Like Coop said sanding is in your future.
