ChrisA
Hi; I'm planning to do an extendable dining table with veneer [possibly beech or maple] with a pattern of alternating grain directions. The substrate will probably be MDF with a solid matching wood edge in a "stingray" profile. The intent is to use a clear polyurethane finish. My question is what thickness of veneer would stand up to years of use? Local retail shops have both backed and unbacked sheets but they are pretty thin. Mark J
Look at Certainly Wood. They have thicker veneers.
Ronn W
Your finish, or more correctly, the thickness and durability of your finish is more important than the thicknes of the veneer. Assumging that, several years from now, the finish shows serious signs of wear, it should be refinished before the wear affects the veneer.
BillyJack
Thicker veneer takes out a lot of imperfections..
