Popular Post curlyoak
This is upside down. A platform for my orchids needed in the winter when heating my plants. Most of the year my orchids a spread out with no concern about temperatures. I heat below 50. A majority like 50 and above. Those plants find their way to the small heated area. The platform will get wet a lot and will be challenged by the liquid fertilizer. To add longevity I applied some high density plastic to the bottom of the feet. Glued and screwed with deck screws. All made from one 2x10x8'.Except for the 1x8holding the feet. Had that on hand. In place. It is 20" x 84". When I need quality 1x2 I buy 2x material and rip 3/4" 1x2's. Always better wood than the 1x2 already milled. I figured to get a 2x12x 8'. I asked the price and they give it in total price of the board. Sounded high. I did the math and it was 13.50 a board ft. WHAT! I went back to my truck and checked on the phone for price at home depot. they did not have 12" wide. the 10" per bd. ft was half at 6.50.. So I went back in to see if the 10" boards were less. they were the same as HD. So I guess better do the math and check prices.
Chestnut
I've found that some species like cedar get more expensive when they get wider. For construction lumber it always seemed cheaper when calculating per BF. What do you use for a heater, or how do you heat the plants? And I have coiled up some UV plastic that I roll down when it is time to winterize. It has proved to work.
