Popular Post gee-dub
NDN's nephew got a free glass top bar from an acquaintance. He plans to use it on his enclosed patio. Someone involved in the move subscribes the the all-too-common theory that the laws of physics cease to exist in the back of pickup trucks. Long story short; no more glass top. I normally say no to these things but my neighbor is a stand up guy and I wanted to help out his nephew. He supplied the material and photos of what the glass top used to look like. The supplied butcher block was too narrow to duplicate the original curve. I knocked out a cardboard template showing what a slightly modified top might look like. He was good with it so away I went. The adjustable tables really help support this heavy material when sawing and sanding. Some spoke shave work to fair the curves. There were holes at each end of the bar body. I added three more between and used 3/8" threaded inserts to attach the new top. The nephew will apply a finish once it is in place.
BillyJack
Turned out nice. I sold a poker table to a guy in Massachusetts in mid 2000. I agreed to pack the table for shipping, but refused to pack the glass. He bought new glass there..
curlyoak
Beautiful work and designing too. I'm sure it will work fine . Around here in a covered patio teak or sapale/mahogany. We live in different humidities/climates. You have a lucky nephew. My guess is you already have favorite uncle status. And if you don't this should cinch it. I think your advice of how to finish it would be welcome and beneficial.
