TomInNC
I assembled a floor standing drill press over the holidays. I put the press on a Bora mobile base. The press seems pretty stable, but since my kids are occasionally in the shop, I would like to add some extra insurance against the press accidentally tipping over. One thought I had was to connect a lift magnet (e.g., something like this https://www.amazon.com/VEVOR-Permanent-Magnetic-Lifting-Neodymium/dp/B091JSF6GN?th=1) to the back of the drill press. Then, I would run cable through a heavy duty eye hook in the ceiling and connect that to the magnet. Has anyone tried something like this before? Wimayo
Might work. I think I would also consider making the mobile base with a broader footprint.
Popular Post wtnhighlander
Would it be simpler to perhaps replace some hex-head bolt on the machine with an eye-bolt, and tie off to that? Magnets can be tricky, having far less 'grip' in a shear movement, than in a straight pull.
Tom King
The magnet seems like more trouble, and expense than it would be worth. A piece of 1/4" yacht braid is plenty strong enough, and a carabiner to clip onto something up high on the drill press, or even just tie it around the column.

After looking at it some more, this does sound like a much more efficient way to go. Now I just need to find a large diameter carabiner. BonPacific
If it's a motor-off-the-back style there's probably a spare hole or spot on the mounting bracket you could thread a bolt through.
