joema125
Best Adhesive for Finished Wood Hello - What is the best adhesive for gluing up finished wood? I'm trying to glue (in addition to securing with screws) parts of a rocking horse that are made out black walnut and maple, and unfortunately, all of the pieces are finished already with Rubio Monocoat Oil + 2C Pure. I'm going to test Loctite PL Premium MAX Construction Adhesive on scraps of the same wood but figured I'd check before doing so. thanks
JohnG
What parts of the rocking horse? If they don’t take a lot of the weight, you might get away with the screws. If they do, you’ll probably need to scrape/sand to remove the finish from the mating surfaces and then glue it for a proper bond.
drzaius
Epoxy sticks well to most finishes. Be sure they are fully cured first though.
wtnhighlander
I would try wiping the finish with alcohol or acetone, to remove oily film, then try the construction adhesive.
Popular Post Chestnut
My advice would be don't try. Rubio is one of those curing wax finishes and there isn't much that sticks to wax. Rubio is easy to repair so just sand back the area that needs glue. Use your regular glue and then touch up the finish.
KellySmith
I have limited experience in this, but i think if you try something with a adhesive finish, for Walnut ofcourse, you will get excellent results. I have used ( https://www.timberbits.com/shop-supplies/glues/ ) these in the past and they do the job well. But if you are not from AUS check the local store for something similar.
