gee-dub
I frequently touch up my router bits and Forstner bits extending the interval between sharpening or replacement. Do any of you touch up your Domino cutters? If so, have any handy tips and tricks?

Chestnut
I think hitting the end with a fine diamond plate could help but I'd always be nervous about changing the geometry if i was using festool stock solely. I'd avoid the side of the bit as that will have the largest impact on sizing the mortise. See the picture below. I'd touch up green but leave red alone. How old is the cutter? My domino is probably 8 years old and i haven't bought new cutters for mine. I use the 6mm and 8mm quite extensively. The 8mm more so recently as i built up a lot of shop stock in that size. gee-dub
Thanks guys. I figured as much. The cutter has not got a lot of hours on it and still plunges in side grain pretty well. Plunging end grain takes a bit more effort and attempts to wander more than the "normal". It may be a matter of perception. I went ahead an ordered a replacement. gee-dub
I have some Amana, Festool, and CMT. Their good usable life is in that order in my experience.

jannick
Sharpen the cutters after every few uses. This will help to keep them sharp and prevent them from becoming dull. Store the cutters in a cool, dry place. This will help to prevent them from rusting. Inspect the cutters regularly for signs of wear. If the cutters become dull or damaged, they will need to be sharpened or replaced.
