Popular Post pkinneb
Well now that tax season has come to an end, for me, and my wife is getting closer to normal after breaking her wrist in four places on 12/23 I was able to get out to the shop yesterday. It was the first time in a while so it was quite the mess I had done a few honey do projects (prepping for new granite counter tops, made a quick shelf, etc and while I had used tools and machines had not cleaned up so that's what I did and then snapped a few pics for@Coop who had suggested some might be interested in seeing my shop. So here goes. I built the 26' x 36' detached garage in 2005, it also has a 10' x14' room upstairs. The shop is split as follows the two right bays are wood shop and the left bay is split front to back again leaving a 10x12 spray room in back and a space for wood storage as well as my lawn mower, snow blower etc. in front. For utilities it has a 200 amp sub panel, forced heat and AC, cable, and internet. I went with forced air becuase I live in a northern climate and most the time leave the heat on 50ish and/or AC at 74ish then when I'm in the space I can get it to temp in just a few minutes. All spaces have in ceiling stereo, plumbed air lines, and the main shop has a Oneida Dust Gorilla system with the main lines in the attic and then drops down into the shop. I also have a security system with interior and exterior cameras so I can see in the shop at anytime and from anywhere I have internet access. Starting at the entrance door and scanning clock wise. You can see My Foredom Power tool, then a compressed air drop, I also have a glass grinder sitting there for stained glass work. Below is the fridge, tall door is a charging station (another pic later) and then tool storage and drawers. Going to the right is my belt sander, sled/ fence/ jig wall, and small cut off storage. Disk & spindle sanders as well as a dehumidifier Moving to the right is my drum sander and small bandsaw typically with a 1/4" blade for curve work. I have 1/2" rubber floor in most areas where I tend to work for longer periods over the epoxy painted floors. Nest is another interior door going to the wood storage area not sure why I didn't get a pic but its there lol. Then my Festool tracks and PC dovetail jig which I should sell since I typically hand cut them now. My main bandsaw Router table another air drop and dust collector vacuum hose. I know I know you're not supposed to do that and you're definitely not supposed to run that long of hose on it but I will only say this it works fine. I have two in the shop and I can reach all corners with them. Next is my mortising machine and my drill press. The drill press is one of the only original stationary tools that I have never replaced nearly 30 years old and still going strong. Here you can see through the double doors into the small spray room. Spray room storage. Fuji line through the wall keeps the unit clean and the noise down having it on the other side of the wall. Fold down table that I can set smaller projects on. Currently lumber storage underneath More storage a cart for my vacuum system and one for the scroll saw. Sorry about the mess didn't get the spray room cleaned up LOL To the right is my clamp wall and my Noden Adjustable height Bench on wheels. On a side note pretty much everything in the shop is on casters and can be moved if needed. More clamps The lathe and sharpening corner. The plan is to upgrade the lathe before I retire but it has served me well for many years. Continuing to the right we are nearly back where we started. Here you can see the filter for the dust gorilla as well as my tool chest and many drawers. The lighter bank of drawers was a more recent addition this used to be a door with two slide out trays like the others. Here you can see the closet door where the furnace, electric panel, dust collector, stereo, etc. are Moving to the center of the room is my Roubo split top bench Out feed table with storage Table saw and storage and finally my J/P and lunch box helical head planer Upstairs clockwise is my industrial sewing machine All the boxes from tools I save...don't ask LOL Woodworking library And finally shop computer although I don't use it much as I keep an iPad in the shop. Some pics of my shop storage solutions Charging center (pic I referenced above) Sanding and Festool storage in outfeed Shooting boards and my Shaper workstation storage Lastly my PantoRouter cart After nearly 20 years my only regret is not putting the dust collector in a closet behind the shop. Water would have been nice but would have been very expensive and at the time I had to make the compromise of not having it. While it has evolved over the years it really has worked well for me. Thanks for looking

Chet
Paul, question, what do you do with the disk sander that you couldn't do with the belt/edge sander? When I save enough money by not playing the lotto, that’s what I’m going to build. Very nice shop setup! Looks like everything was well planned and thought out.

gee-dub
What a wonderful workspace. Well equipped and well laid out. What sort of fan do you use for exhaust in the spray area please?
legenddc
Wow, that's amazing. Thanks for the tour. So much drawer space! I take it you don't frequently have to cut a lot of long board to length as your table saw looks fairly boxed in and I didn't see a miter saw.

I find it more controllable for light (detail work)I usually start shut it off and just use the momentum of the wheel 1

If I spay a lot of non water based finish I typically do it in the driveway.

I cut my sheet goods with a track saw on a 4x8 piece of 2” foam in the driveway. I’ll click a pic of it and post when I get home and have swapped the blower for the tractor bucket and it’s cleaned up a bit
Chestnut
Man the trim updates and door color really make the space pop. Some day I'd like to visit and see the space in person.
