One day finish

I have one day to knock out a simple "viking chair" as a gift for a friend.  I need a finish that I can apply and be dry enough to use in 24 hours.  It'd be nice if it had some outdoor protection, but not necessary.  Paint is an option of last resort.  The wood is pine, if that matters.  This is supposed to be a simple, inexpensive no effort gift, so it doesn't need to be fancy.

I'm leaning towards spray shellac from a rattle can.  Seems like a quick and easy option.

Shellac or spray lacquer are the only things I can think of that might be ready to sit on in a few hours.
