Popular Post Mark J Posted September 27, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted September 27, 2024 I have been meaning to share this tip for a while. I hang small tools, particularly saws, from conduit using small rare earth magnets. But on this wall the conduit is behind the drywall . Scratched my head for a while, did not want to mount a myriad of hooks, and flat steel bar stock is WOW expensive. Then I looked at actual conduit. Score! I was able to buy a 10' length and 3 mounting brackets for less than $10, including sales tax. I used screws I had and mounted to studs. Et voila! And conduit is actually better than flat stock as the curvature makes it easy to remove the magnets. 9 Quote
Popular Post Mark J Posted December 20, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted December 20, 2024 We were discussing French cleats in another thread and it got me thinking about a conduit solution. This may not be a great idea, but I'll put it out here for your evaluation. Take a length of conduit, let's say 1/2", but you could use 3/4" diameter. Use one mounting bracket for each stud. Interpose a small piece of 1/2" thick ply or lumber between the bracket and the wall. Using long screws attach the brackets, spacers & conduit to the studs. You now have a length of conduit standing proud of the wall. Next step is to make some hooks to hang things on the conduit rail. One idea is drill a hole the size of the conduit in a piece of 3/4 ply or some 4/4 lumber. The distance from the edge of this hole to the edge of the wood should be a bit less than the distance from the wall to the conduit. Now cut the wood in two right through the middle and you have two hooks for the conduit. 3 Quote
