Popular Post curlyoak Posted November 3, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted November 3, 2024 Been out of commission for a while. And too hot to work. A gift shop wants a few of these. The rest will be gifts or promotional for prospects and any new neighbors moving in. Cherry, hard maple, and a tiny strip of walnut. The cherry was ripped from 2" flat grain which give the cherry vertical grain. Dominoes for the end cap and biscuits in the middle. If this was not a woodworker forum nobody would know what the hell I was talking about! biscuits and dominoes etc. I've been making these for years. I figured out an easy way to attach the sandwich of maple and walnut to the end cap. I rip a bunch of pieces under an 1/8" x 1". I pin nail the glued pieces in the middle only and they are much wider than the body is thick. I do 2 at a time. I clamp the 2 end caps with no glue in the very middle. Before I torque down the clamps It is easy tp align the thin pieces with one pivot point. The nail is dead center so the domino bit is spared. Then I bandsaw most of the overage an 1/8" plus or minus and sand the balance on my stationary belt sander. For flatness I run them through the drum sander. Final sanding with RO. Finished with mineral oil. Safe enough for a babies bottom then safe enough for cutting boards. 6 Quote
