roughsawn Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Is there a standard overhang dimension for the table top, overhanging the front and side aprons? The live edge is wavy, making the table top wider on the ends than in the middle. I'm thinking a 1" overhang in the middle, giving me about 2-1/2" to 3" on the ends. Sound about right? Any suggestions for the overhang on the ends, also? Thanks guys! 2 Quote
fcschoenthal Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 To me, it's all about how it looks to you. Sure, there are "standards" to many things, but it's primarily about ergonomics. The height of a chair seat or countertop for example. But even that is subjective to form over function, or even vise versa. 1 Quote
wtnhighlander Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Agree with the above. Just don't leave so much overhang that putting weight on the edge can tip the table over. 1 Quote
curlyoak Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Build into the base a means of allowing the top to move. 1 Quote
Dave H Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 When I built my live edge coffee table I had the same problem, I decided to make my base so I had a couple inches of over hang on the narrow end of the top, here are some pics I'm not sure if it's right or not but it worked for me 2 Quote
roughsawn Posted December 5, 2024 Author Report Posted December 5, 2024 That looks good, Dave. I'm going with 1" overhang in the middle...and it'll be about 2" on the ends of the sides. About 1-1/2" on the ends. I'll taper the 2" legs down to 1-1/2". Subtle, and not too blocky, but still beefy. 2 Quote
