weedsnager
looking for a medium sized shoulder plane with a 3/4 wide blade if anyone has one collecting dust, thanks
PaulMarcel
I have a Lie-Nielsen medium shoulder I was considering selling; a quick look at eBay's closed auctions, it averaged around $170+$10 shipping. I'd take $170 shipping included. New is $195+s/h.
ChetlovesMer
lee valley tools had veritas manufactured seconds on sale on their website for $120 on black friday. I picked one up and I can't find the flaw in it. You may want to contact them and see if they have any more.
PaulMarcel
That was a smoking Black Friday deal; if I didn't have a shoulder plane I really like, I would have jumped on it. My friend who works at Lee Valley said they were gone by noon. I can see why!
ChetlovesMer
That was a smoking Black Friday deal; if I didn't have a shoulder plane I really like, I would have jumped on it. My friend who works at Lee Valley said they were gone by noon. I can see why! Wow, I'm feeling quite lucky. It's a great plane and as I mentioned it is supposed to be a manufactured second... I can't seem to find the flaw in it. They paper inside the package said it had a cosmetic flaw. I've looked at it in every light I can and I didn't find the flaw. So, I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase.
woodcanuck
Ditto on the Veritas shoulder plane. I can't find any flaws in the one I got either. If you are into making tools, Ron Hock sells a kit for a wooden shoulder plane, 3/4", and under $100. I made one last year and like it for light work, the metal one is a good weight though and works better on gnarly wood. I videoed the build, it is on my blog. Matt Vanderlist also covered the Hock kit on his site. http://woodcanuck.wordpress.com Ian
ChetlovesMer
Hey Weedsnagger, Have you considered making your own 3/4" shoulder plane. I've seen a number of plans out there to build one out of a 3/4" chisel. Not sure how well that works, but I've seen them.
