Veritas Medium Shoulder Plane

Recommended Posts

I received this plane as a Christmas gift from my wife. Today I cleaned off the preservative, and put the blade in.

I am making some walnut raised panel doors, and the end grain of a panel needed to be cleaned up a bit before I assembled the door (it wasn't fitting perfectly), so I busted out my new medium shoulder plane.

I was very impressed with this plane. It had no problem shaving off the end grain of the panel. The plane was easy to use, and very comfortable in my hand. The adjustments were easy to make, and there was zero backlash. I would highly recommend this plane for cleaning up tenons and other end grain work.

This is my second veritas plane, the first being the #4 smoother.

Anways - 2 thumbs up for the shoulder plane!

i agree. it's a great tool.

i do wish that i had purchased the large rather than the medium. the medium is just a bit too small to use comfortably in my hands and i've not yet come across an instance where the larger blade would have been anything but an advantage.
