Wet/Dry Sandpaper P# vs #b

Recommended Posts

I have a bunch of wet/dry sandpaper in varying grits. At some point I organized it by number, but found that my P600 is more coarse than my 400b.

Does anyone know what the P vs b indicates?

There are two popular standards for sandpaper, the American CAMI and the European ISO (prefixed with a P). Wikipedia provides a comparison table. Basically from 60 to 220 we're talking the same language, but from there on you always need a higher P value to match the CAMI. So, yes P600 is about equivalent to a hypothetical 380 grit.

Chris Schwarz has also published a chart for all types of grits, sandpaper and honing stones.
