Charger
Hello everyone, I need to know what type of wood this is,It has a purple hue in the grain and it is very heavy and dense. Please let me know. Thanks, Lance & ""Keep Makin that Sawdust"" http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3239/0914101648.jpg
thewoodwhisperer
Looks like walnut to me brother. Lots of times, walnut can have that amazing purplish hue to it. That's my best guess.

iSawitFirst
Yep. I agree with mark. Although, I haven't seen any quite that purple. Try planing or sanding a section to see if the color changes.

Man I have like six of these boards that are 6" thick x 5" wide x 6' long.

I am 1000% positive it's walnut mabey aged and introduced to either a chemical or uv light. Could be off on the method of the colar change but am sure it's walnut
samhell
What happens when you wet it? I have a piece like that one that looks kind of purplish but when you put water on it you will see it turns the normal dark brown walnut color you are used to. Vic
Charger, more specifically, it's air dried walnut. Kiln drying homogenizes the color. Not to my tastes. Plus being air dried, you can more easily steam bend that. Nice haul!!! You suck, btw!!!

Then maybe I shouldn't tell you about the piece that I have that is 4 inches thick 16 inches wide and 8 feet long? That has been air drying for 2 and a half years so far. Just another 7 years to go before I can use it.
Charger
Wow I'm sitting on a gold mine of wood then, Yes it was air dried for three years or so. It's at 6%MC right now, that's measuring it after I re sawed it. Thanks for all the feed back. & ""Keep Makin that Sawdust"". Lance
muddlermike
How did I make it to your "not so good" list when I was the first one to tell you it was walnut in the chat? I realize my knowledge base and expertise is overwhelming at times, but there's no reason to get testy. Definitely, no soup for you!
