Guest
I prefer 6" combo squares. I have a crafstman and an empire and I use them all the time. Mostly for transferring measurements or marking depths. For checking machine set up, I have one of these, which I also use for checking miters. It has japanese writing on it so it must be accurate. http://www.amazon.com/Shinwa-Japanese-Combination-Square/dp/B003CMRSRG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431630647&sr=8-1&keywords=japanese+square
wdwerker
I use the same Japanese square Mike does to square up my tablesaw , band saw, jointer fence etc. I have a 6" ,12" and 24" PEC blemish combo squares from Harry Epstein . They are all handy for layout work.
