Hatch Cover Table

Hatch Cover Table

This is my design and build for a small drop-leaf type table for our small deck.

An umbrella table was always in the way on our small deck. So, I decided to build a small drop-leaf table that would have a small fixed portion mounted to the wall on the deck for casual use. Then, for meals or large horsdouvres, we bring out the grid portion of the table and slide it on the open hinge pins. Then we swing it up and install its temporary support leg. We have fed five adults at this small table.

The table is made of western red cedar and the grid portion is a dado-cut design. It is all protected with Epiphane and the grid portion of the table is kept inside unless we are using it.
