I have been lurking and watching this forum for a bit and love the atmosphere and people I have experienced and read. I wanted to share a story with everyone here,
My father made furniture over 30 years ago and gave his cut off scrap to my uncle. Well the furniture business is long gone as is my father who passed away back in 2005. In the past couple of year i have had the time and money to start putting together a small shop in my garage. I wish I had been able to do this prior to my fathers passing but life didn't work out that way. My skill are crude but improving as I tackle more projects.
A few months ago my uncle contacted me to see if I would be interested in picking a few pieces of wood left over from my fathers furniture shop 30 years ago. I thought he may have a few board feet of walnut or cherry and said that I would love to pick it up. I drove the two and half hours to his house with my truck and was surprised to find that my pick up wasn't big enough to pick up all the wood stacked in his garage. So i came back a few weeks later with a trailer and tried again to load up the wood.
I found cherry, walnut, lots of oak, bass wood, and close to 30 turning blanks for tables and bed posts. This was a treasure trove of wood. My uncle wouldn't let me pay for any of it, his only conditions were that I help him clean his garage once it was loaded and help him with a few project if he comes to visit my wife and I. I happily agreed with his deal.
Now I was faced with the problem of what to do with all this lumber, so first step first. I cleared out all the christmas decoration and put them in the guest room and made space to build some form of storage.
