ztifpatrick 0 Posted June 28, 2011 Report Share It came out very nice. I'm curious, how did you do the inlay? In this picture it looks like you glued these down to ply and then what? You cut out an overlay from white oak ply? Quote Link to comment
avalonwoods 10 Posted June 28, 2011 Report Share Hi Chris - Actually there is no plywood involved, only solid hardwoods. I first glued up a panel out of quarter-sawn white oak, then used a template (shown in the other photo) to rout out the depressions for the triangular pieces which were cut out of walnut and maple. I then simply glued them in place and put the whole board thru my wide belt sander to bring everything to the same thickness. The triangular pieces appear to be laying on top of the sub-panel when in fact they are just a bit thicker and stand out a bit from the surface. The leftover glue and paper seen is the result of my putting a piece of brown paper over the whole piece before placing weights on for pressure until the glue set up. Does this answer your question? If not let me know. Quote Link to comment
