A couple of years back I bought a heap of GMC (Global machinery company) tools because I was told the company had gone out of business. Dirt cheap and was too busy to do anything other than open the boxes, have a quick look and then put them aside. Now that I am looking into getting into joinery rather than general cottage construction, I have unearthed a lot of these tools. Watching Marc's videos on the festool routers, I am noticing an awful lot of similarities with the 2200 festool to my 1500 watt GMC and my 1020 shares similar designs with the smaller festool routers. Of course I am hoping that these cheap tools will last a few years given weekend warrior work. Has anyone else noticed cheap copies of great design within the woodworking tools they have seen?
