Zignot5 Posted January 29, 2012 Report Share Posted January 29, 2012 Hello I'm a noob to finishing & need some help with planning the finish for a few chairs 1st- is there a finishing reference that list which finishes can go on top of other products? For example what can go over BLO or shellac or etc to add a protective coat? What can't? I'd like to have a list for this. The chairs- I have one chair made of curly oak and one made of curly maple. Both need finishing that is for frequent use, but they will be indoor furniture. I've been told that the oak & maple need to be finished differently because of the pores. I had originally thought of using BLO covered with a protective topcoat. However, I've seen warnings that BLO will drain out of the oak for weeks. I'd appreciate any suggestions for finishes that will highlight the curl & be protective for frequent use. Thanks!
