notquitea90
Hey everyone, Im just getting ready to finish a small box made of cherry and I'll be using Bulls Eye Seal Coat (dewaxed) as a first coat to help prevent botching. I've never really used Bulls Eye before due to it being so hard to find in my area or any type of Shellac for this sort of thing so I was hoping someone could help me with a quick question on sanding. When I'm sanding the Bulls Eye coat after it dries how much should I be sanding down? Am I suppose to sand it down to bare wood again leaving the Bulls Eye deposited in the pours or should be leaving a thin smooth coat of the Bulls Eye over the entire surface behind? wtnhighlander
I can't say I've ever used shellac as a blotch control, because I generally avoid staining. I use it often as a sealer, though. My experience has been good when I apply a thin coat, then let it dry enough to lightly sand. Sand only enough to remove 'dust nibs' then proceed with the finishing schedule.
